‘Everyone says why didn’t I say no for the craic!’ - Etaoin Corr on Kodaline beau’s romantic proposal
Etaoin Corr never imagined that her quiet and chilled out boyfriend Jason Boland of Kodaline fame would pop the question in front of 82,000 screaming fans.
But that is what happened on stage at Croke Park during Saturday night’s sold-out Ed Sheeran gig.
Speaking to RTE 2FM’s Stephen Byrne, Etaoin admitted that it is surreal watching the many clips of the moment that are circulating on YouTube and social media.
“I was watching from the side of stage, beside Carina [Elliot] and Diana [Bunici],” she said. “I knew something was up when Jay was given the microphone. He’s usually the quieter one.”
Before she knew what was going on, Etaoin was ushered onto the middle of the stage by two security men.
“I can’t really remember a lot, I think I blacked out a little bit,” she laughed.
Even though they have been together for many years, the music publicist said she never expected the proposal to be so elaborate.
“God no, absolutely not, anyone who knows Jay knows he’s quiet and chilled back. I always thought if we did get engaged it’d be at home sitting in front of the tv and he’d just go, ‘D’ya wanna..like..?’ I didn’t think there’d be 80,000 people to share it.”
“We’ve been going out about seven years, but were friends since we were 4 or 5 years old.”
“My dad’s a bit under the weather at the moment in hospital, Jason was really sweet and went in and asked for his permission.”
Etaoin, who lives in London, laughed that all her friends say she should have said no to her boyfriend “for the craic”.
“It’s so not Jay. I don’t know what came over him,” she admitted.
“He picked out the ring himself and it was absolutely beautiful. I thought it would be with an onion ring or a jelly ring! He did a spectacular job, I couldn't have picked better myself. It’s a criss cross band and one diamond in the middle.”
“I’ve no idea when the big day will be. My friend Carina is getting married to Vinny so I’m sure we’ll have lots of planning together.”
