RTE's Claire Byrne proved her journalistic credentials when it came to keeping the political party bosses in check during the recent Leaders' Debate.

But the only party that she's focusing on now is the one for her own wedding.

Staying true to her no-nonsense personality, Claire (39) said it will be a "very simple" affair.

"It will probably be this year," she said.

"It's something that you might hear about after it's all done. I'm not eloping or doing anything big, because we've a one and a two-year-old. We're just going to do something small and enjoy it ourselves."

Engaged to Gerry Scollan, with whom she has Jane (1) and Patrick (2), she added how she's looking forward to some well-earned time off this Easter.

"It's been a really busy time with the General Election - that's where the focus has been," she said. "I'm taking a week off at Easter, I'm really looking forward to that.

"We're not going anywhere. With the children, it's actually too hard to even think about that. So we're just going to relax for a week and take some time out - as it's just been so, so busy for both of us."

She added how there's no telling how the current political stalemate will play out, and says we could be looking at having another election by Easter.

"We could be talking about exactly the same stuff again," she said. "I'm just fascinated by it. I don't know where it's going to go, but it's been brilliant and interesting."

She was one of the guests at a celeb-filled lunch to support Adi Roche's Chernobyl Children International at Fire restaurant on Dawson Street.

Hosted by celebrity agent Noel Kelly and RSA chief, Liz O'Donnell, the €100-a-head event helped raise more than €20,000 for the worthy cause.

Mr Kelly said the funds raised would pay for 20 cardiac operations for children born with congenital heart defects as a result of the Chernobyl disaster.

Other attendees included presenter Yvonne Connolly, who looked chic in a Hugo Boss suit, and who was accompanied by boyfriend John Conroy.

Also there was RTE music presenter Dave Fanning and wife Ursula, along with Lisa Fitzpatrick and Aidan Power.
