Sheen Falls, Kenmare, Co Kerry
Searching for a secluded spot for your wedding? Sheen Falls Lodge is the home away from home you’re looking for. Tucked away in Kenmare, Co Kerry, couples can enjoy a hideaway before, during and after their big day. Nestled on 300 acres of picturesque scenery in the Kingdom, including the eponymous Sheen Falls, it makes for the perfect wedding portrait backdrop.
What you want to know…
The Venue: Sheen Falls caters to weddings of up to 200 people. The Falls restaurant can host larger crowds, while Oscar’s Bar and Bistro provides an alternative option for smaller crowds of up to 50 guests.
Overnight: The bride and groom have the option to book exclusive use of the hotel, but it requires a minimum number of room bookings, depending on what time of year you book. During busy periods (Christmas, New Year’s, summer and bank holidays) exclusive use on Friday and Saturday nights is required.
Accommodation: Couples have two options with their wedding package – both offer the newlyweds the Sheen Bridal Suite on the night of the wedding, while the Palladium (€140pp) offers the Presidential Wedding Suite. Two additional complimentary rooms are valuable for guests of your choice the night of the wedding and preferred rates are on offer for wedding guests.
Food: Menu options include one starter, one soup, main course, dessert and petit fours. Their Peppered fillet of local beef and roast chestnut mushrooms are a trademark. Oh, and there are seven different dessert options. Late food is also available.
How much?: Packages start from €125 per person, with a special winter rate of €115 per person (for weddings in February, March, November and December). The 'Palladium Package' comes in at €140 per person. Prices include sparkling wine and 1/2 pint of Guinness for guests on arrival, with the latter adding canapes on arrival and a six course meal.
What you get: The packages include a wedding planner, red carpet, personalised menus, complimentary champagne for the newlyweds floral arrangements and more perks (check out below).
Something to think about: They host 20 weddings per year, so the chances of your doubling up with a fellow engaged friend are slim to none.
Perks: Deputy General Manager Ciaran Murphy is the on-site wedding coordinator and the hotel offers a complimentary one year anniversary dinner to commemorate the big day.
The catch: Privacy comes at a price. Coming from Dublin, it is nearly a four hour drive; from Limerick, a two hour drive; from Galway, three and a half hours and from Cork, an hour and a half. If you’re arriving by train, transport can be arranged from Killarney train station.
