Model agent Vicki Mooney spoke openly about her nervous breakdown and suicide attempt.
The former plus-size model and owner of V Plus Agency spoke out for the first time about the turbulent time to raise awareness ahead of World Mental Health Day his Saturday 10th October.
Appearing on TV3's Midday, Vicki spoke about the painful and difficult period in her life.
“This time last year I began to struggle, so busy trying to be the perfect mother, my career, taking everything on, and I broke, it was that simple, I broke. It was physical pain, like a small tornado in my stomach that got worse and worse," she told host Elaine Crowley.
“December last year I attempted suicide for the first time, I started attending Pieta House for the first time, a month later I took a massive overdose and ended up in hospital. The first time was a cry for help.
“I had gone through making videos for friends and family, to arranging everything, planning the kids to be picked and taken to my mums for the weekend," she recalled.
Vicki explained to the other women on the panel how everything built up until she was at breaking point.
“One day I came home and my son had missed jersey day. I wasn't the perfect mother and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I attempted suicide.
“I had a complete psychotic break, I smashed my head against the wall, I pulled my hair out. I took an overdose and ended up in hospital.”
Vicki is now seeking help in Pieta House, and is determined to be strong for her kids.
“My breaking moment was coming home from hospital and my eight-year-old daughter saying to me 'Mammy, mammy, you're alive and you're not mad anymore', that was my turning point.
