Yes: 'There has never been a sexual spark between us'

Platonic pals PR queen Rebecca Burrell and Eoin Doyle, co-owner of the Brook Lodge Hotel in Wicklow, have been best friends for a decade.

And despite admitting she finds Eoin attractive, married mum-of-one Rebecca (42) -- who runs Burrell Marketing and Publicity -- insists she would "never go there".

"Eoin and I became friends 10 years ago when I started doing the PR for his hotel. With a similar sense of humour and outlook on life, we clicked right away.

"As soon as I first saw him, I thought he was really sexy. But while I recognise he is attractive, there has never been a sexual spark between us. We were both in relationships when we met -- and still are -- so romance was never on the cards. Both Eoin and I are very happy in our relationships and would never do anything to endanger that. Being close friends with a man is totally different to female friendship -- there's a different dynamic.

"Although we don't have the type of giggly gossip you'd have with a girlfriend, Eoin and I are very frank with each other. He knows secrets about me and vice versa. It's nice to get a male perspective on life.

"The feminine part of me also loves hanging out with a guy who's cool and attractive -- without worrying about the risk of sex messing things up.

"I feel really relaxed around him, knowing that neither of us would ever go there. We've been going out drinking together for a decade -- with and without partners -- and nothing has ever happened, so it's safe to say it never will!

"Sometimes when we're out, friends will comment that I'm very 'friendly' with Eoin. But I'm just a demonstrative person. I could be out with my husband Peter and Eoin -- and have my arm around Eoin!

"I even tell Peter that I think Eoin is gorgeous. He's absolutely fine with our friendship. It's absolute nonsense to say that men and women can't JUST be friends. Eoin and I are proof."
