Over half of women are disappointed when their partner gives them flowers on February 14.

Some 70pc of those women said they would rather be given another gift entirely, a survey of 2,000 people by Caption Fragrance Co revealed.

A further 38pc regarded fresh flowers as a waste of money, while 70pc said they would prefer to be given a gift that lasts forever, London’s Evening Standard reported.

The findings mirrored those of a Valentine’s Day poll by Durex which showed that 64pc of UK adults don’t look forward to the occasion because they think it has become too commercial.

The survey of 2,000 people by Durex found that 40pc said Valentine’s Day is too much of a cliche.
