TV presenter Jennifer Maguire has admitted that losing her virginity was a “pretty horrific” experience.
The ‘Republic of Telly’ star revealed she first had sex with a boyfriend when she was 18 years old.
And it’s her former boyfriend’s white sports socks that will haunt the 33-year-old forever.
“The only thing I remember about the experience is it was pretty horrific and he kept his socks on, his white sport socks,” she said.
“It wasn’t talked about. It just happened in his house one day when his parents were away.
“I’d say he was in such a rush to get the job done, because that’s what it is like,” she continued.
“It was shocking, it was terrible, it took me ages to get the hang of it.”
Maguire, who was speaking on Darren Kennedy’s show ‘Like A Virgin’, said the only reason she went back for more was because she “needed the practice”.
If Jennifer could have changed anything, she said she would have waited longer to have sex.
“I wasn’t personally mature enough in my head [to lose my virginity] for how it made me feel emotionally, because obviously when you’re a girl you get emotionally attached a lot more,” she said.
“I’m not a psycho when you sleep with me but when you’re that young you think you are mature enough to deal with everything else.
“So my advice is to wait as long as you can because when you’re that young you are quite self-conscious anyway as a 17 or 18-year-old.”
Jennifer said she believes the key to “great sex” is to be comfortable with yourself and comfortable with someone else.
But she said she understands the rushing hormones.
“When you’re that young your hormones are racing, you are dying to throw the leg over to say you’ve done it, aren’t you?,” she laughed.
Former Fianna Fail TD Mary O’Rourke also featured on the show and said she waited until marriage to lose her virginity, but never found out if it was her late husband’s first time.
“I don’t know if Enda was a virgin and I never asked him,” she told Darren Kennedy.
O’Rourke said she always made an extra effort in the bedroom to make things romantic.
“It was never just wham, bam, thank you ma’am,” she said.
