It's about declaring our love'

TV presenter Michael Hayes (36) and fiancée Ailbhe Lee (30) are set to tie the knot in southern Spain this April. And Ailbhe -- an events and training manager for the Irish Internet Association -- advises other brides not to get carried away with the "window dressing".
"Michael and I had been together four years when he got down on one knee and popped the question in November 2010.
"I was never really one of those girls who fantasised about her wedding day. As soon as I got engaged though, suddenly I started seeing wedding dresses and cakes everywhere!
"Every girl wants to feel like a princess on her big day -- but I'd never spend €30,000 on a wedding.
"Michael and I looked at some fabulous venues here in Ireland, but they weren't really us so we eventually decided to get married abroad. One hotel here quoted us €10,000 just for the reception -- but in Spain, you can get a whole wedding for that.
"My advice to other brides is always have a contingency fund and pay for things as you go along if you can -- we encountered lots of unexpected costs like the paperwork for getting married abroad.
"Planning a wedding is not something I'll miss and Michael and I had to learn to compromise on some things -- but I can't wait to get married.
"Ultimately, it's about declaring our love for each other in front of our family and friends -- everything else is just window dressing."
