Australian star Delta Goodrem dated the former Westlife member for seven years before splitting with him in April 2011.

In an interview with Australia's InStyle magazine she spoke about her search for Mr Right.

‘‘I go on dates but the culture is very different here. For the first time in my life I can ask for what I want rather than have men choose me.

‘‘It doesn’t matter what they do as long as we can bounce off each other and be a team,’’ she said.

The starlet insisted she has fallen for the wrong type of men in the past.

She previously dated Australian tennis player Mark Philippoussis and a much-younger singer Nick Jonas along with McFadden.

‘‘I could love anybody, which my friends know. That’s why they want to make sure the next person I do love is right for me,’’ she added.

Her admissions on love accompanied an elegant photo shoot with her modelling exotic beach wear.

When she and McFadden ended their relationship, they issued a joint statement which insisted that the parting was mutual and amicable.

‘This decision has been made with a lot of soul searching from both parties with the realisation that they have grown apart,’’ it read.

McFadden later took to his Twitter page stating, ‘‘I love Delta and always will. She is one of God's living angels. I thank her for giving me the best years of my life. Please give us time x.’’

The pair met in 2004 when McFadden asked Goodrem to duet with him on the song ‘Almost Here.’

At the time he was still married to reality TV star Kerry Katona, although they had separated and the duet was about their break-up.

Goodrem is currently working on her fifth album in Los Angeles where she lives.

Her debut album in 2003 was the seventh best-selling record in Australian history.
