#WelcomeToTheFamily - Royal household officially welcomes newborn princess on Twitter
The official Twitter account for Kensington Palace has tweeted a very special welcome to the newborn princess daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
They tweeted #WelcomeToThe Family along with a picture of the new princess leaving the hospital safely cradled in the arms of her mother Kate and escorted by her father William.
They tweeted this morning shortly after 6am that Ms Middleton was admitted to St Mary's Hospital and was in the early stages of labour.
Just after 11am, the account tweeted that Kate "was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am".
They also tweeted her weight - 8lbs 3oz - and said William was present for the birth.
The account provided updates throughout the day, announcing that Prince George had arrived back at Kensington Palace after meeting his little sister for the first time.
Kate and William also used the account to "thank all the staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have all received" and how they "would also like to thank everyone for their warm wishes".
