A smiling Queen of England wore pink in a salute to her newly born great granddaughter.

For the queen, it was business as usual today.

The 89-year-old was visiting Richmond Castle for a previously arranged engagement.

As the sovereign, the queen was informed shortly after Kate Middleton gave birth to the little princess at 8.34am this morning.

And while she couldn't change her schedule, the queen donned pink to mark the littler girl's arrival into the world.

Buckingham Palace said the queen was "delighted" with the news.

Kate and Prince William are expected to decide on a name for their daughter in the coming days.

This name will be approved by the queen before it is made public.

The monarch is expected to visit the new arrival in the coming days.

This is the queen's fifth great grandchild.
