Dressed in a yellow floral dress by one of her favourite designers Jenny Packham, a beaming Kate cradled her newborn in her arms yesterday evening.

The Duchess looked radiant, a mere twelve hours after she went into labour.

The couple then travelled to their nearby home in Kensington Palace with their daughter.

It's understood the new family of four received no visitors last night, instead getting acquainted with their new arrival.

Before Kate and William made their way home, their toddler son Prince George attended Lindo Wing in St Mary's Maternity Hospital with his father to meet his little sister.

Prince William allowed his son to walk for a few steps before the toddler changed his mind and asked to be carried.

Both George and William waved to the waiting crowds, as William kissed his son tenderly on the forehead.

George spent some time with his parents and new sister, before leaving the hospital through a private entrance and being brought back home to Kensington Palace.

Earlier, his father told members of the media how happy they were with their new daughter.

"We are very happy," William briefly told the waiting press as he left the hospital to fetch George to bring to the hospital.

It turned out that it would be the only utterance the royal would make as the couple opted not to speak to the press when introducing their daughter.

However, the media didn't seem to mind this as they got the chance to see Prince George in the flesh.

The little prince is rarely seen in public - his protective parents have issued some photographs but he hasn't been in the spotlight as much as his father William and Prince Harry were when they were the same age.

The last time a photograph of George was issued was five months ago at Christmas time.

George accompanying his father to see his younger sibling drew comparisons to the time when William's father Charles brought him to the hospital shortly after his brother Harry was born.
