Heart attack: Triona McCarthy on the make-up products she adores
Ch-ch-check out this week's heart-rated skin, hair and make-up finds. Hopefully you'll adore them as much as Triona McCarthy, our own hearty beauty expert, does!
It's my son Maxim's birthday today. He's three. He was born on the same day as my late sister Tricia and my Granny Agnes, and, totally random one now, it's Rosanna Davison's birthday as well. She sent me a message when Maxi was born on this very special day. So there you go now. Happy Birthday to you all, wherever you are!
If you have a day, like a birthday, where you'll be doing lots of kissing, then you need a Clinique Pop Lip Color + Primer lipstick, €19.50, as they last for ages - well, up to eight hours or more, depending on the kissing level, before reapplication, thanks to, well, magic really.
OK, it's down to science, and the fact that these bad boys have a built-in primer. Just like a hydrating primer for your face, these lipsticks condition and nourish the lips, which makes the pigment go on smoother. I find that after a few kisses, they matte-down to a modern velvet finish. Best of all, your lips feel comfortably moisturised as well. I love the Cherry Pop shade (I'm wearing it in my photo, above). Used with Clinique's Quickliner in Intense Passion, above, €17.50, my lip colour lasts and lasts.
If you feel your lips are a bit lacking, then you need to know about Murad's Rapid Collagen Infusion for Lips, below, €28.
This instantly smooths and softens the skin, promotes healthy collagen and boosts microcirculation for more youthful lips, while reducing the appearance of vertical lip lines and wrinkles.
"A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely." I know I quote this Roald Dahl line quite often and I know it's a bit cheesy, but it really is true. So smile, ffs!
I've been trying out lots of eye creams lately, looking for something new to really make a difference to my baggy, saggy eye area, and nothing really impressed me. Nothing. They were all a bit meh!
Then I discovered the new Superskin Eye Cream, above, €41, from Liz Earle, and oh my goodness - finally something that not only felt fabulous, but, after four weeks of using it, I've noticed that it's made a big difference to the skin around my eyes.
The cream feels really refreshing in the morning when I use it, and I love how it makes me look more awake - and all in just one supercharged step! One pump for each eye, so you know exactly how much to use. Simples!
It's enriched with a botanical blend of rosehip, borage and cranberry seed oils, as well as a potent infusion of paracress extract to lift, pomegranate fruit and green tea extracts to brighten, and alfalfa extract to reduce puffiness.

Serious actresses, such as Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, above, need to look good naturally.
So Facial Vacuum Lifting - available here in Ireland at top Dublin salon Bellaza Beauty, see bellazabeauty.com - is very popular in Hollywood, as it uses radio-frequency with heat to plump out facial lines naturally.
It stimulates old collagen, while also creating new collagen, to give skin an instant lift and a plumper look.
It's especially good for weaker areas of skin that have become slack, making them more defined - for example, the cheekbones, the jaw and chin.
Best of all, there's no downtime. Book in at Bellaza for a free consultation and patch test and you'll see the difference even a patch test can make!

Triona's most wanted
My latest art obsesh is Genieve Figgis - go on, google her. I first came across her at an RHA annual show a while back, and now all I want is a piece of her art and my life will be complete. Until I get a new obsession, that is!
My sister Tricia was an artist, so we were always going to art exhibitions. I miss that now that she's gone.
Anyhoo, Tricia loved humour in art, or art that intrigued or bewildered, and wasn't at all what you thought it was. Art that you just couldn't get out of your head - and that's what art was to her, and to me: something that made you feel something. I'm not explaining that very well, but I think you know what I mean.
Figgis's figures often appear faceless or foolishly smirking. Ladies Chatting is one of my favourite works of hers. The three ladies in the painting look like they're wearing face masks, sitting around in their finery, in their fancy house.
I bet these sassy lassies are using Korean brand When Sheet Masks, above, €10 from Topshop, who specialise in creating sheet masks for very specific skincare needs. When has a solution for every situation. Whether your complexion needs soothing, hydrating, firming or brightening, these high-impact, low-maintenance beauty treatments are a must-have for every make-up bag.
Boots No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum, above, €38 - you need this on your face right now! There is so much excitement around this launch. My fellow beauty writers and I are raving about it, having got to try it before its official release. The verdict is that yes, No7 has done it again, and is set to break more records with this product, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles, and evens skintone.
