A simple white cami top and slouchy peg-leg trousers are the perfect dressy-casual combo for spring occasions. This look works because it's not too much of a commitment to the ever elusive 'weather' - a jacket, casually slung over the shoulders, will easily take care of a little chill without undoing the summery vibes.

By opting for pale colours, former Miss Ireland, Aoife Walsh, gives the look a nice feminine feel, while her electric-blue accessories inject a bit of fashion and edge into the proceedings.

Stylemma

Dear Stylemma,

Q. I am looking for a versatile white shirt that can be worn on its own with smart black pants for work, or with jeans on a casual day. I would also like if it could be worn inside a sleeveless black shift dress. Any ideas? I am 45 and a size 16.

Ans. Cos is a great shop for good-quality basics and it does smart shirts that would be perfect for you. It does a clean-fronted style for €59, which zips up the back and is neat enough to wear under shift dresses. Principles by Ben de Lisi at Debenhams also has a front-buttoning shirt in heavy cotton for €45.
