Zooey Deschanel designs for Tommy Hilfiger

Born out of a mutual love of vintage fashion, To Tommy, From Zooey sounds more like a meeting of minds rather than a business collaboration.
"Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations - old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons," notes the New Girl star of her design mentor. Hilfiger is quick to praise the young actress too: "She reminds me of Audrey Hepburn for her sense of humour, her sophistication… At the same time, she has a Jackie O type of chicness to her."
Of the 16 Sixties-inspired dresses Deschanel has lent her design skills to, Hilfiger tells WWD: "There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics. They are very Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy - really from the Sixties in London."
Deschanel, meanwhile, describes the tone of her shirtdresses and peekaboo numbers as a combination of Mod and nautical, or "Modical" as she aptly coins. And in keeping with the actress's "down to earth" personality, she has named each one after a friend.
Fourteen of the dresses, which will retail between $98 (£59) and $199 (£120), will go on sale at Macy's on April 14, with the full collection arriving on Tommy.com on April 21. The actress is also set to appear in the advertising campaign that will accompany the launch.
Will the hexagenarian designer work with Deschanel again? After pinning the actress as the epitome of the 'Tommy girl' we're placing our bets now.
