Five fabulous looks for €250
Nightclub queen Lianne Kavanagh has a wardrobe full of clothes – but not a stitch to wear this party season.
And the 26-year-old Dubliner isn't the only one.
The average Irish woman spends almost €100,000 in her lifetime on clothes, according to a recent survey by Sure Women Linen Dry.
Yet 60pc of us still struggle to throw an outfit together in the morning.
"Even though my wardrobe is bulging, I never seem to have anything to wear," admits Lianne, who's sales and marketing manager of The Odeon Group.
"My main problem is that I don't have time to rummage through all my clothes. Instead, I usually buy a few staple pieces like skinny jeans, oversized knits and ankle boots that I can mix 'n' match every day – throw on some accessories or just a bit of lipstick and I'm ready to hit the town!"
From the office party to visiting the in-laws, here we reveal the winter wardrobe that'll see you stylishly through the 12 days of Christmas for under €50 a look.
Top 10 items every girl needs in her wardrobe this season
by stylist Sharon Huggard of Style4You.ie
1 The cosy knit
"Knits are a fantastic way to add colour and texture to your current wardrobe – not to mention wrap up against the cold! Layer a cosy cardi or jumper over a dress or jeans for a laid-back look. If you're worried about adding bulk, go for fine-knit rather than chunky."
2 The statement jacket
"When shopping for a statement jacket this winter, channel Chanel. This season's designer-inspired box jackets look just as good thrown over a T-shirt and jeans as they do with an expensive dress. The key to finding the perfect one is making sure that it sits properly on your shoulders."
3 The skater skirt
"Separates are a great way to make your wardrobe work harder for you. Skater skirts – one of this season's hottest trends – also skim over problem areas such as thighs, tum and bum. Best worn with a fitted top to keep your feminine shape."
4 The black tights
"Black opaque tights are a girl's best friend during winter as they hide a multitude. Depending on the coverage you require, go for a high denier or double up with two pairs. Don't be afraid to try coloured tights, which can help update an old dress."
5 The Party Dress
"From the boardroom to the bar, there's nothing like a shimmering party dress to get you in the festive mood. The peplum is perfect for showing off killer curves. But you don't have to play it safe in black – gold, burgundy and bottle green are just some of this season's hottest hues."
6 The shoe boots
"'Shoots' are key to instantly updating your look this winter. Team them with skinny jeans or, for an edgier vibe, pair with a dress or skirt. Watch for stud detail and a chunky heel – which offers all of the lift with none of the pain!"
7 The black vest top
"This wardrobe staple will work hard for you year-round. Layer under knits, jackets or a sheer blouse during winter. Then carry it through to summer with shorts, jeans and flip-flops. For extra support, opt for wider straps that hide your bra straps."
8 The winter coat
"Whether a dress or denims, a good winter coat is essential to finishing off any outfit. Keep it classic with black, navy or camel or add some personality with print. Fitted styles are most flattering for curvy figures, while looser ones are best worn with skinny jeans or leggings for balance."
9 The day-to-night bag
"A massive handbag isn't exactly ideal on the dance floor, so invest in an oversized clutch – that still holds your make-up essentials and fold-up pumps – to take you from day to night instead. An on-trend black envelope clutch goes with pretty much anything."
10 The skinny jeans
"Skinny jeans are a year-round staple. Layer them with cosy knits and casual pumps during the day; then switch it up with a statement blazer and killer heels at night. Although skinny black jeans are timeless, an on-trend khaki green pair will see you through to Spring."
