Lily Aldridge: VS Angels are strong

The 27-year-old became an Angel in 2010, when she was given her wings for the first time – following in the footsteps of models such as Gisele Bündchen, Karlie Kloss and Miranda Kerr. Although some may see the underwear company as risqué, Lily sees the label as a symbol of female empowerment.

“I think of it as being super-girlie, not sexy,” she explained. “It's a huge part of American culture. The Angels, to me, are strong, iconic women who I have grown up watching,” she told Net-a-Porter. “Becoming an Angel was a huge achievement, the turning point of my career... It's made me a household name – very few models get that chance anymore.”

Lily’s mother Laura Lyons was a Playboy Playmate during the ‘70s. She is a huge fan of her mom’s modelling pictures, but isn’t sure if she would ever pose for the famous men’s magazine.

“The Playmates were rock stars. Mom was part of a time when Playboy was amazing and the pictures were beautiful. It's not a bad image or anything, I just don't think so,” she replied when asked if she would consider appearing in the publication. “Although, wait until I'm older, I might change my mind!”

Lily has been modelling since she was 16. She realises her career in front of the cameras won’t last forever, but she has plenty of other projects lined up for the future.

“When my time is up, it's up,” she said. “But I make sure I mix up jobs and branch out. I want to create an organic beauty line, a fashion line, and I'd love to do kids' wear. I've done Victoria's Secret [so] I have a name and I can launch myself in a bigger way. But, wherever my career takes me, I am blessed.”
