What She Wears: spring handbags
There are endless handbag styles each season, so finding the perfect tote, clutch or satchel can be a tricky task. The choice will inevitably depend on your style - timeless or trendy, elegant or casual.
Here are some celebrity inspired 'It' bags to guide you towards finding your own version of this spring's must have handbag:
Dolce & Gabbana Miss Sicily
Victoria Beckham, Madonna and Eva Mendes are all fans and I totally get why. The Miss Sicily (€1300+ at Dolce & Gabbana) is very elegant, has a retro shape and comes in black or white patent leather, embossed croc and colourful leopard prints. More recently, the Miss Sicily has been updated in new fabrics, such as crochet, making it perfect for the summer months.
Anya Hindmarch offers a similar “crochet”-style bag in black or white - the crochet is more a raffia looking woven leather effect rather than actual crochet and it comes in at €737 for the shoulder bag and €221 for the clutch.
Otherwise, try the brown slouchy crochet effect bag from Next for a prudent €32!
Mulberry’s bag of the season is named after Alexa Chung and is a satchel more so than a handbag and is currently seen on the arms of Chung herself, Olivia Palermo and Florence Welch.
It sold out pretty much straight away in Brown Thomas, and at Mulberry head quarters you’ll find a waiting list the length of your arm, so for a budget-friendly alternative opt for a tan coloured Twist Lock satchel instead from New Look (€21) which also comes in black or beige.
Alexander Wang Diego
Kate Bosworth is perhaps the biggest celebrity fan of the Diego and I can see why. It’s a casual pouch bag (sometimes called a bucket bag) which has a short or long strap so that you can wear it across your body too.
Wang’s version comes with his trademark studs underneath but there is a great version, minus the studs, available from Topshop for €34.
Céline Calfskin Luggage Bag
This hobo style bag, ie, large and slouchy, is from a collection that the whole fashion world is buzzing about, and is a favourite of Mary Kate Olsen.
As the name indicates, it is made of pure calfskin and is the alternative status satchel for spring if the Alexa just isn’t you.
Clean, elegant and somewhat sporty, this big, black, beautiful creation will set you back over two grand so you may want to consider Furla’s Corniola bag instead which costs €340 and comes in black, beige or white.
On the high street, there is nothing that comes close but I must say that the Kenneth Cole Reaction collection at House of Fraser is the best for black leather hobo bags around, priced at approximately €120.
So, now all you have to do is decide which spring bag is for you?
