(Warning: contains nudity) Rihanna outdoes herself in completely sheer crystal dress at CFDA Awards
Rihanna’s signature style is unabashedly racy, but at last night’s annual Council of Fashion Designers America awards she pulled out all the stops.
To receive the Fashion Icon Award 2014, Rihanna turned heads in a sparkling sheer dress by the designer Adam Selman.
Selman, who has been designing stage costumes for the singer since 2011, used over 200,000 Swarovski crystals on the iridescent dress.
The chart topper ensured all eyes were on her knockout figure, and protected her modesty with a nude thong.
The 26-year-old Bajan beauty accessorised the other-worldly look with a white fur stole and a sequined head scarf.
Receiving the coveted Fashion Icon accolade from Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Rihanna told the audience: "I can compensate for all of my weaknesses with fashion. Fashion should never be frustrating, it should be fun. As long as I can remember fashion has been my defense mechanism."
The event, held at Lincoln Center in New York, is an integral event in the fashion calendar.
Continuing her sartorial home run, Blake Lively opted for a modern Sixties look in a Michael Kors scalloped mini dress, accessorised with stacked bangles, hooped earrings and a bouncy bouffant hairdo.
Model Joan Smalls put her best foot forward in a pleated dress with a thigh high split and cut out details from designer Prabal Gurung. She also showed off her new hairdo, complete with sultry bangs.
Solange Knowles made her first public appearance since the lift controversy. The singer looked radiant in an embellished gown from Calvin Klein, with natural hair and a pop of fuchsia pink lipstick.
Chanel Iman proved style credentials beyond her years in an impeccable gown by Monique Lhuillier, who she accompanied to the event. The model wore a spellbinding black beaded gown with long sleeves and a sweetheart bust highlighting her graceful, lithe figure.
