EVEN for someone as comfortable in the limelight as Victoria Beckham, first-night nerves are still a force to be reckoned with.

The pop star-turned fashion designer last night unveiled her new collection in New York. And despite the sombre mood given the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the show went on and with some style.

But Ms Beckham admitted to butterflies, just before going out to face the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.

She posted a message on her Twitter account that read: "About to go!!!! Excited!!! Nervous!!!!"

The show was received warmly, however. It was the the fifth collection unveiled by Ms Beckham.

The star narrated her show on an original set that was created by Kelly Hoppen.

The collection itself blended the neutral with high energy flashes of colour.

By the time the last model left the catwalk to warm applause, the nerves and tension seemed to have melted away in the afterglow of a successful launch.
