As Joan Collins once said, the problem with beauty is that it’s like being born rich and getting poorer. However, it seems you can fake it until you make it without going under the knife, and for a lot less cash. As the name suggests, Athena 7 Minute Lift, a facelift in a jar, below, €70, claims to give results in just seven minutes by softening fine lines and wrinkles.
It is created with a blend of 12 organic Greek essential oils, and it also contains acetyl hexapeptide-3. Remember, a small amount goes a long way. Want a Kim Kardashianesque bottom? Check out Bremenn Butt Lift In A Box, above right, €75.
This is a three-part system that claims to not only help reduce the appearance of cellulite, but to also make your bottom look smooth, tight and lifted, as it restores a healthy-looking, head-turning roundness to even the saggiest of rear ends. Mama Mio Boob Tube, right, €34, has been dubbed “the Wonderbra in a jar”. It contains CoQ10, a powerful antioxidant which, it’s claimed, helps prevent collagen degradation.
Collagen is the all-important protein net that supports your skin, and protects your decollete from the effects of gravity and ageing.
Is your hair lacking lustre? Hair can become dull and dry as a result of residue build-up from hair products. A vinegar hair rinse will leave your hair soft, shiny and moisturised, as vinegar has clarifying properties that removes residue and closes the cuticles. Mix ¼ cup of white vinegar with a cup of water. After conditioning, leave the solution on for three minutes, then rinse.
Got the itch?
Two blondes open a hair salon. One day a guy comes in who has dandruff. So one of the blondes goes: “We should give him head & shoulders.” The other blonde replies: “How do you give shoulders?” Ha! Blonde or brunette, we’ve all heard of bad-hair days. However, many of us don’t realise you can have a bad-scalp day, too.
With this in mind, experts at head & shoulders have created the Scalp Care Collection, which includes a shampoo and conditioner, both left, from €3.59. The range gives you healthy, beautiful hair and it looks after your scalp, too.
Now that the days are darker, I’m craving a heavier scent. I decided I’d give Belle D’Opium, below, from €57, a go. It is the latest fragrance from Yves St Laurent. It was the bottle that caught my eye. This must be one of the prettiest bottles I’ve seen all year.
I am such a sucker for pretty packaging. I love the purple, red and gold combo. This sister scent of Opium isn't so much a lighter version, but a next-generation, younger version. The warm scent compliments this time of year. So, what’s my, eh, opium on it?
Its notes are a combination of white pepper, Casablanca lily, sandalwood, jasmine absolute, gardenia and hookah accord, which make it rather spicy and intoxicating. My friend, Catriona, can’t get enough of the stuff, so now I end up being surrounded by the scent whenever she’s around.
Looking for something new in a manicure? The French mani is so not where it’s at, while dark digits are de rigueur — on everyone. Stand out from the crowd by creating your own nail art with IsaDora’s new Graffiti Nail Top, right, €7.50. Apply IsaDora Wonder Nail as a base — there are lots of colours to choose from.
After the base coat has dried — give it about five minutes — apply a single stroke of Graffiti Nails as a top coat. This dries extremely quickly and, very soon after application, you will notice a graffiti pattern appear on your nails — and the pattern will be different on each nail. Nailed it
Natural highs are hard to come by these days! So, when I heard that Alchemist Earth — the beauty boutique filled full of enviromentally friendly skincare and haircare products, many of which are also organic — is now stocking the Neal’s Yard Remedies range, I needed to get high!
As I’m not near Limerick, which is where the shop is located, I logged on to the fantastic website, www.naturalskincare.ie, instead. They also stock Ren, Burt’s Bees, Lavera, Trilogy, Suki, Weleda, and many more fabulous cult beauty ranges. Alchemist Earth carry the Lavera range of make-up too, so, if you want to achieve an effortless, glowing beauty like that of glamourpuss Kate Bosworth, left, then you need to either check out the shop or the website.
Christmas is a-coming and Alchemist Earth’s lovely range of Christmas gifts are in store now and online, too. I especially love the Nadur Organic Treatment Candle in Soothe, €31.99. There are also lots of goodies for the man in your life.
So g’wan — get high, naturally! Alchemist Earth, 10 Sarsfield St, Limerick, tel: (061) 404-218, or see www.naturalskincare.ie
