A host of celebrities and fashionistas we were welcomed to the unveiling of the Knightsbridge store by Kate Moss and Sir Philip Green.
The state-of-the-art new Topshop flagship in super-chic, super-rich Knightsbridge, in London, is off to a flying start.
The "empress of fashion", Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue, slipped in minutes after the start of the VIP gala opening at 5.30pm yesterday, had a guided tour of the 14,000 sq. ft, three-floor, glass, stainless steel and black marble shopping "heaven", with owner, Sir Philip Green, and bought a creamy-beige leather biker jacket, for £125. Then, her eye was caught by a great pair of gladiator sandals on one of the futuristic mannequins, and she swiftly added a pair, £45, in off-white, to her shopping trolley. Whether the pieces were for her, or her daughter, Bee, remains a secret.
It was a night of fabulous shopping, with Kate Moss presiding over the launch of her 12th collection for Topshop, personal styling like a demon and selling pieces hand over fist. I couldn’t resist a black, three-quarter-sleeve blazer, a black, beaded tunic and a great "samurai" kimono.
Charlotte Dellal (of Charlotte Olympia shoe fame), looked great in a Kate Moss for Topshop garden floral maxi, and rushed off to get the blazer, too.
Daisy Lowe wore an incredible Topshop Exclusive floral-print flamenco gown, and even though she was in Charlotte Olympia seven-inch heels, she was trailing a four-feet train - ”enough to make curtains”.
Minnie Driver looked stunning in a one-sleeved, navy beaded tunic-dress with “witchy” hem - very Stevie Nicks/”Rumours”, we thought - which is from Meadham Kirchhoff’s first collection for Topshop (previewed last night - hurry, while stocks last!).
Celebrities including Nicola Roberts (in Mark Fast for Topshop pink crochet body-con) Alexandra Burke (in a Topshop Exclusive red flapper dress); Jamie Winstone (in cream lace Kate Moss for Topshop); Amanda Harlech’s daughter, Tallulah Ormsby-Gore; Sting’s daughter, Fuchsia Sumner; Peter Simon of Monsoon’s daughters, Jessica and jewellery designer, Zara; and the Delevinge sisters, Poppy and Cara. They joined Yasmin Le Bon, Sir Philip and Lady Green’s daughter, Chloe, Kelly Brook and Danny Cipriani, Heather Kerzner and Eva Herzigova on the supreme shopping spree, before heading off to an exclusive dinner around the corner at Zuma, where designers Richard Nicoll and Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff joined the fray.
Sir Philip revealed it was the 303rd Topshop store in the UK - and the best, we all thought - and singer-songwriter, Ellie Goulding, winner of the Critics Choice Award at the 2010 Brits, played a live set, wearing cute Topshop shorts, crop top and funky boots.
