The way we wear: This week's style message from the street

We stopped four stylish ladies and asked them how they put their unique looks together.

Name: Annie Chee

Age: 22

Profession: Fashion retail

From: Castleknock, Dublin

Wearing: Hoody and top, both by Killah, €80 each, and skirt by Lipsy, €50, all from BT2 Blanchardstown. Tights, €2, and shoes, €9, both Penneys.

What is your favourite shop?

BT2 and Topshop.

What was your best bargain buy?

A black cotton, crop top for €8 from Penneys that I wear a lot.

What is the most expensive fashion item you have ever bought?

A pair of tan leather, platform sandals with gold buckles by Carvela for €160 from BT2.

Who do you think are the best and worst dressed celebrities?

The best is Cameron Diaz and the worst is Lady Gaga.

What is your favourite label or designer?

Chanel.

Approximately how much would you spend on clothes every month?

About €300.

What or who influences your style?

People I work with, magazines such as French and UK Vogue, Glamour and Look and also my brother who works for Chanel and can sometimes buy sample pieces.

What was the last fashion item you bought?

This skirt.

What was your worst fashion mistake?

Wearing a tennis T-shirt, denim skirt, cropped leggings and flip-flops to my first day of college in October.

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate in fashion.

I love maxi dresses and I hate Crocs.

10 Corso Como in Milan.

What was your best bargain buy?

Two Lanvin handbags for €50 from a sample sale in Paris. One is a brown leather man bag with a sporty ribbon strap and the other is a '60s-style, taupe Napa leather bag with a chain strap.

What is the most expensive fashion item you bought?

A grey, fox fur gilet by Nina Ricci for €4,000 that I bought directly from the designer who hand-cut it himself.

Who do you think are the best and worst dressed celebs?

The best is Karl Lagerfeld and the worst are all Irish stars.

How much would you spend on clothes every month?

This month, about €300.

What or who influences your style?

Layering and fabrics, especially cashmere, silk and leather.

What was the last fashion item you bought?

Snow-boarding gear from Pamela Scott and TK Maxx.

What was your worst fashion mistake?

Dying my hair blue and shaving the side of my head.

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate in fashion.

I love how everybody can express their inner beauty through what they wear. And I also love how you can have cheap clothes but if you accessorise with expensive items, it can look amazing. I hate how working in the fashion industry can bring about so much stress that people forget the fun. It's not all that serious.

A navy chiffon, loose Grecian-style gown for my Debs that I got in a little shop near Chatelet in Paris for €100.

Who do you think are the best and worst dressed celebrities?

The best is Alexa Chung and the worst is Jordan.

What is your favourite label or designer?

Luella.

Approximately how much would you spend on clothes every month?

About €50.

What or who influences your style?

French style and I like Nylon magazine.

What was the last item you bought?

A grey chiffon, loose short dress with flowers appliquéd at the neck from Topshop.

What was your worst fashion mistake?

Jodhpurs when I was younger.

I love the colour navy and I hate zebra print.

Mrs Quin's charity shop in Dun Laoghaire

What was your best bargain buy?

A pearl white, silk blazer by Ralph Lauren, similar in shape to this one, for €4 from Mrs Quin's.

What is the most expensive fashion item you have ever bought?

A crimson chiffon, Edwardian embroidered shawl from an antique fair in the RDS that I got made into a dress for my debs.

Who do you think are the best and worst dressed celebrities?

The best is Alexa Chung and the worst is Jordan.

What is your favourite label or designer?

Galliano.

Approximately how much would you spend on clothes every month?

About €50.

What or who influences your style?

My mood, Vogue and Elle magazines and blogs such as The Sartorialist, Face Hunter and I Blog Fashion.

What was the last fashion item you bought?

A pair of black, high heel brogues for €80 from Schuh that I put ribbon laces into.

What was your worst fashion mistake?

My Abercrombie and Juicy phase.

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate in fashion.

I love embroidery and vintage pieces and how it's an expression of your personality and I hate trends.
