The Spice Girls' style

|

As the Spice Girls come together for the launch of the musical Viva Forver!, take a look back at Posh, Baby, Sporty, Scary and Ginger Spice's unforgettable style.
In their purest form in 1996, introducing (L-R): Posh, Sporty, Scary, Baby and Ginger Spice in all their glory.
Cropped tops and flimsy fabrics dominated the Spice Girls' colourful and often revealing wardrobe. Hair was never forgotten either - with generous streaks and lashing of ribbons worked in wherever possible.
Melanie Chisholm was the 'Sporty' one, favouring tracksuit bottoms, and erm, football shirts for public outings.
Victoria Beckham (or Adams, before she married footballer David) quickly established herself as the Posh one, and owned a plethora of little black mini dresses. Here she was pictures attending the Versace show in Milan in October 1997.
Emma Bunton - aka Baby Spice - had a penchant for pretty pastels, of course. Oh, and clumpy Buffalo boots, which she once fell off stage because of, causing serious injury.
A roster of bouncy tendrils, flared hipster trousers and tight tops formed the key ingredients to Melanie B - aka Scary Spice's signature dress code.
Arguably one of the most famous moments in pop history, Geri Halliwell's foray on stage at the 1997 Brit Awards in a Union Jack minidress (fashion from a tea towel by her sister) was unforgettable.
In their element for a Polaroid advert, the Spice's wardrobe spoke volumes about their style and their individual personas, making it difficult to confuse one for another.
Showing the many sides to their good humour, the five Spices dressed up as schoolgirls in 1997 to promote the 'SpiceCam' - the first Polaroid camera to be named after a group or single star of any kind.
A scantly-clad Geri Halliwell made headlines when she cosied up to Prince Charles dressed as a showgirl in 1997…
…but the singers showed that they did possess a more demure side as they promoted the 1997 Poppy Appeal. Victoria Beckham, with her legs out and proud, balanced out her big reveal with a pair of serious-looking spectacles.
'Who are ya?' Melanie C gets Posh to embrace her sporty side as they enjoy a football match at Old Trafford. Victoria - we're loving your painfully coordinated camouflage look.
The Spice Girls are all that glitters in floor-sweeping gowns at the Royal Variety show in 1997.
Even when donning red noses for charity, the Spice Girls always looked like they were having the most fun possible.
Entering the WAG phase: Victoria Beckham goes for an assault of triple denim and rather unflattering sunglasses to cheer on her boyfriend Becks at Manchester United.
It was just boybands who wore coordinating suits in those days, keen to readdress the 'Girl Power' balance, the Spice Girls donned all white - but flashed their padded bras in the process, of course.
There was a definitive Sixties aesthetic to many of the Spice Girls' looks. While the others favoured minidresses, Melanie B (second from right) always ensured she had her toned abs on show in hipster flares.
Posh made her fashionable foray on to the catwalk - as a model - for London designer Maria Grachvogel - in 2000.
Fast-forward to 2007, and the band's reunion saw the Spices take to the stage in new outfits. We think we prefer the outfits from the first time around…
Arriving to perform at the Victoria's Secret show in 2007, the girls' sense of style has definitely evolved from Buffalo boots and cropped tops... shame…
…but the military-inspired costumes they performed in at the lingerie giant's show perfectly suited the 30-something year-olds.
