Victoria Beckham's famous tummy frill dresses cost about €1,700.

But supermarket chain Tesco has introduced its homage to the flattering shape with an €18.50 price tag -- almost 100 times cheaper than the former Spice Girl's original.

Made from a mix of 81pc polyester/18pc viscose and 1pc elastane, Sarah Morrisey modelled it in yuletide red yesterday at the launch of the Tesco autumn/winter 2012 collection at the Little Dublin Museum.

The dress, with the trademark frill which hides a multitude, also comes in a black, a green and a b/w houndstooth version for €29.

The Tesco range gives some strong nods to traditional winter looks and brands, like the traditional waxed and quilted jacket.

As students head back to campus this week, complete outfits costing under €50 took on a whole new appeal such as the short navy quilted jacket with faux suede trim (€21) over checked tweed shorts (€18.50) and a copper toned tee for €6. Add a pair of leather boots for €51 and the outfit still comes in sub-€100.

The leather boots at €51 are more expensive than Tesco boots in the past but underline the store's new approach to customers who have moved to them because of price.
