Stylewatch: First-daughter crush
New-style-crush alert. It was the navy dress that first attracted our attention, when we spotted her at the recent State dinner in honour of the Queen at Dublin Castle.
After the herds of full-length gunas, often strapless and barely propped up by a pair of sixty-something-year-old breasts, it was refreshing to see a woman brave enough to dare not to bare. The mid-length flared skirt was nicely age-appropriate, and the natty, pointed courts saved the whole thing from becoming a tragically cliched Mad Men tribute. We give you SaraMai McAleese. Yes, we can’t believe we’ve never noticed the younger daughter of the President either.
The 25-year-old, who is a twin to brother Justin, and whose elder sister Emma is married to Michael O’Connell, son of Kerry GAA legend Mick, is famous for nothing more than retaining an under-the-radar presence. A show of quiet dignity rare these days in one in a position to capitalise on another’s fame. Little is known about her, apart from that she’s said to be a fitness fanatic, with a masters in biochemistry from Oxford. Brainy and well dressed. What’s not to like?
