Dear Stylemma, I am going to a posh party in London later this month and I’d love to wear a dress. The invitation specifies a cocktail dress (not a maxi) as the dress code.
As I am a senior, I need something that will cover my knees and the top of my arms, and my budget is €200. Please help. I feel I have tried everywhere. I’m in Dublin. There are a host of fantastic dresses out there. Arnotts have some great pieces: the Libra jersey dress in purple, €170, falls below the knee, has full cap sleeves and a beautiful Pucci-inspired print. At Brown Thomas, Quin and Donnelly’s navy lace dress, €159, is a tasteful little number and has three-quarter-length sleeves. The high neckline and below-the-knee hemline are countered by the generous scooped back. Also at BTs, Michael Kors dresses are simple, sexy and sophisticated, and his brick-red silk jersey wrap dress with zip detail, €185, is a showstopper. Amber Moda in the Westbury Mall, tel: (01) 635-9984, stocks beautiful, very reasonably priced dresses. Their boat-neck, high-waisted dress with black-bow detail from Viola Stils, €159, is slightly left of field, but it has full sleeves, which give that all-important arm coverage.
