Style Watch: It's time to start stockpiling for winter

August is upon us so it's time to start thinking trans-seasonal. That tricky time of year when you feel it's still summer but the shops have started to stock knee-high leather boots and shearlings.
Surely only the obsessively organised can consider buying their key winter pieces this early?
Cue, New Look. The astonishingly affordable high-street store is launching its new Idol collection next Thursday (August 12). It promises to be chock-full of pieces that are wearable now but will happily slide into your winter wardrobe over the coming months.
The fabrics are floaty but the palette is dusky, so whether you combine them with sun-kissed skin or layer them with wintery shades, they'll adapt.
Key pieces include a green jersey top criss-crossed with knotted chiffon, a distressed waistcoat embellished with gun-metal beading and a selection of maxi dresses from vintage-style dusty pink to grey raw-edged chiffon.
There are also great drop earrings weighted with tarnished wings for a final touch of romantic grunge.
