'Why TF do I have to dress the same as everyone else?' - Ariel Winter defends sexy dress criticism
Ariel Winter ruffled some feathers when she stepped out in a sheer panelled mini-dress on Wednesday night, in contradiction to her Modern Family castmates, who were dressed down in jeans.
The 18-year-old actress was critiqued for her choice of ensemble, but she hit back in a lengthy Instagram post.
"Why TF does anyone care that I didn’t dress casual like everyone else for the panel? Why do I have to be like everyone else?" she wrote.
Why can’t people just let other people feel good about themselves and do what they want? WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT PEOPLE!
"As long as you feel good about yourself that’s what matters. I know I did. Don’t ever let anyone stifle who you are and how your express yourself. Rant over."
The popular tv star recently revealed to Maxim that she's proud of overcoming her struggles with body confidence and doesn't feel the need to comform when it comes to her personal style.
"I definitely used to feel a lot more anxious about what I posted and what people commented, and now I just really don’t care. I struggled for so many years with people hating on what I’m doing, saying I should change the way I look, the way I dress," she explained.
"I tried to change for years and I hated the person I became—and hated that people were still just as negative. I realized the only person I should worry about pleasing is myself. I have this policy. If you don’t like what I post, don’t follow me. If you don’t like what I say, don’t read it.
"You know, I post photos of my butt and I have cleavage out on the Internet—who cares? Guys post their naked bodies and nobody says anything to them - a bunch of girls comment and are like, 'This is amazing, you’re so hot!' But if we do it, we’re like the sluts of the world," she said.
"It’s super offensive. I make a point now to just post it. If I take a good picture of my butt, it’s gonna go on the Internet. And you can enjoy it, or don’t."
