The Hot List: What we loved (and loathed) this week
Holly Shortall charts what got us talking for all the right and wrong reasons this week.
Lovely Girlie Bits
One word: Hilarious. We’ve been fans of sisters Karen and Joanne and their award-winning beauty blog for some time now and our newest hook is their YouTube channel. Karen’s latest solo video is coming to terms with being a snaddict (a Snapchat addict!). Check it out to see if you have any of the same symptoms.
Fashion’s Big Night Out
Irish super stylist Jan Brierton has taken it upon herself to organise Reach Out: Fashion’s Big Night Out, to raise funds for GOAL and their Syria Emergency Campaign. It’s on October 6 and will have lots of fashionable fun and all proceeds from raffle tickets will be going straight to the charity. Shop for a cause.
North West Kardashian’s Style
Who knew this two-year-old had so much personal style? In spite of spending most of her short life clad in black clothing, North appears to have developed a style of her own, with Kim even letting her pick her own pieces each morning. From leather trousers to Dr Marten boots, to pretty princess dresses and plastic shoes, this week alone we have seen at least three of Nori’s outfits that we need in adult size.
This Irish beauty has had us enthralled ever since she moved over to New York earlier this year to pursue a career in fashion in the Big Apple. Now she’s back home in Kerry (temporarily), but her gorgeous style still has us captivated.
We’ve been obsessed with the new H&M oat Dublin’s College Green since it opened in December. But the store’s head honchos are clearly equally obsessed as they chose Dublin to host the global launch of their Studio Line collection on Tuesday. It’s now available in stores around the country – if it’s in stock!
Clarins Jolie Rouge Lipsticks
Clarins is enjoying a makeup makeover of late and has seriously upped its game with their new lipstick range. In just a few short weeks, it’s being hailed as the must-have lip product by beauty buffs the world over and with 25 shades in the collection, there’s no shortage of options!
As one of Dublin’s most established vintage clothing stores, Nine Crows have been making all the right retail moves over the last few years. Together, co-founders Dean Ryan McDaid and Emma Fraser have watched it grow from small store on Ormond Quay to a major online player. Expect to find Chanel scarf dresses, hand-selected one-offs, and chunky gold jewellery in this hidden treasure trove.
Yes, winter means endless fashion possibilities and an excuse to cover up our legs again, we’ve always approached the season with a little caution. Gone are the thoughts of salads and smoothies for lunch and instead are replaced with hot chocolates, roast dinners and soups and sambo combos. With that, comes the dreaded winter weight – which you can put down to layers.
The X Factor
“This will be the last year I will watch the X Factor.” – Us, every year.
But 11 years later, here we are. This time, promising ourselves really and truly that this will be the last time. What was once compulsive viewing is now a caricature of its former self. Nick and Rita aren’t doing it for us and not even our fave, Louis Walsh could save it now!
‘Baking’ involves applying layers of foundation and highlighter, before using a wet beauty blender sponge to apply more layers of setting powder to the skin and waiting for it to dry. It apparently leaves you with flawless skin, but does sound like a lot of effort. We’ll stick to contouring, thanks.
