Toni Garrn still feels like she is "just starting" her career.
The blonde beauty was only 13-years-old when she was scouted and made her runway debut two years later for Calvin Klein. But despite going on to model for Karl Lagerfeld, Patrick Demarchelier, Paola Kudacki, Peter Lindbergh and Mario Testino, the 22-year-old still feels like she's at the beginning of what she hopes will be a long profession.
"I’ve seen so much and had a huge career already, but at the same time, I’m just starting," she explained to The Edit before revealing she looks up to fellow model Christy Turlington. “What Christy has done in her career just seems so effortless, and [her charity] Every Mother Counts is amazing.”
The German beauty isn't off to a bad start herself, with 16 international Vogue covers to her name and three Victoria Secret shows under her belt. However, Toni admits she never thought modelling would get her anywhere.
"I had no idea about [the modelling industry], I was just taller than all the girls in my group," she admitted. After walking for Calvin Klein, the fashion house booked her for its campaign the day after the show. “I was like, ‘Okay, I guess that’s good,’ and my agents were like, ‘That’s great!’ I didn’t know – I’d never done a show before."
Those first few months were a crazy time for Toni, who is currently dating Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Every Friday afternoon she flew from her hometown of Hamburg to New York for castings and jobs, then every Sunday she made the return trip.
“Then I would sit with my schoolmates again, who would lock the teacher out and throw paper airplanes,” she recalled before adding with a smile, “I’m very spoiled now, I’ve been to so many beautiful places.”
