Model and blogger Louise Cooney talks us through her style inspirations and favourite trends in our latest Style Diary.
The willowy blonde caught our eye on Instagram earlier this year, and we've been glued to her stylish feed ever since.
The 22-year-old hails from Limerick, but is currently residing in New York, working as a Marketing Assistant for Tourism Ireland in the North America Market.
When she relocated to the Big Apple for work, she made the decision to set up an eponymous blog to document her experiences living in a new city, as well as her travels, food and fashion.
She has already built up an impressive following, thanks to her low-key, polished outfit posts shot against some of New York's most recognisable backdrops and her candid entries about living away from home for the first time.
We caught up with Louise to talk about what influences her, and what it's like to live in the city that never sleeps.
“Blogging is something I’ve always followed and been interested in,” Louise says. “Being in New York this year gave me the perfect reason to really commit to it. It’ll be so nice after the year away to have this log of my experiences and my outfits to look back on. I always find it interesting looking back on how my style evolves over time.”
Speaking of style, DCU graduate Louise says her own aesthetic is chic, fun and feminine.
“I like to keep things classic, so I wear a lot of white and black but I do love to dress up – so I love adding some colour or sparkle to looks. I don’t try to comply with what’s on trend but I’m interested by it and like to try different things – that’s where the fun side comes in.”
Not surprisingly, Louise gets most of her fashion inspiration from bloggers. She cites Arielle Charnas, Julie Sarinana and Liz Cherkasova among her favourites, but she also looks to the likes of Olivia Palermo and Blake Lively for outfit ideas.
When it comes to shopping, Louise is a high street girl with a weakness for online splurges.
"H&M is a definite favourite," she says. "I also love Boohoo.com, Revolve Clothing and Zara. But my best ever buy was probably my black Tom Ford sunglasses – I get so much wear out of them - they go with literally everything and they’re so pretty."
At the moment, the city is sizzling with the soaring temperatures, meaning weekend escapes to nearby beaches and pools is essential. Louise has managed to get the seasonal dressing right though, incorporating a few key garments in her wardrobe.
"We had the fastest Spring of all time in New York this year so we basically went from Winter wear straight into Summer gear. I have stocked up on classic blouses for the summer though – easy, breezy and chic for the hot summer in NYC. Two or three sandals, bikinis and sunglasses and you’re good to go."
"Black has also become a huge part of my wardrobe in New York. My style is definitely leaning towards minimalistic here as it’s good for work but also easy to dress up. I didn’t realise until I left how stylish Irish people are, we like having fun with what we wear – so I definitely join in on that too."
"There is not a huge difference in my style between Ireland and New York. The weather does play a huge factor in what I wear though – at home we’re lucky in that we can pretty much keep the same wardrobe all year with minor changes here and there. Here in New York there is a big difference between Winter and Summer – so we say goodbye to snow boots and winter coats and hello to sandals and shorts."
