James Middleton and his beard have achieved the impossible - stolen the spotlight from the royal family.

Kate Middleton's younger brother has been sporting some new facial hair in recent months, but his full beard reached epic new heights over the last few days.

And hjs beard maintenance hasn't gone unnoticed as he somehow emerged as the main topic of discussion in after Kensington palace released Princess Charlotte's official christening portraits.

Legendary photographer Mario Testino, who shot Prince George's christening and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's engagement portrait, worked with the couple in shooting Princess Charlotte's official photos.

The touching family photo sees Kate, Prince William and their two children sitting alongside the Queen, while Prince Philip, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall alongside Michael, Carole, Pippa and James Middleton in the Queen's private residence at Sandringham.

But it's the newly hunky businessman's scruffy new look which plays centre stage in the sweet photographs:
