Miss Florida winner was dethroned for the most ridiculous reason ever
A former Miss Florida contestant is suing the Miss USA pageant after she was dethroned for using her own makeup team.
Genesis Davila was crowned Miss Florida last month, but was soon dethroned six days later after pageant organisers say she gave herself an unfair advantage by allegedly using her own glam squad instead of the one provided.
Her attorney Richard Wolfe says the allegations are false are now seeking $15m in damages for defamation from executive director Grant Gravitt and its parents companies.
"We believe [Gravitt] acted maliciously and intentionally, to defame and hurt my client," Wolfe said.
The beauty queen's lawyer claims a photo she posted on her social media account of her having hair and makeup done was used as evidence to dethrone her, but she says the image was taken nine days before the Miss Florida competiton.
"We have a smoking gun," Wolfe added. "I've never seen such a strong smoking gun showing one man's malice."
Meanwhile, Davila is pleading to have her title reinstated.
"I am innocent. All these false allegations have taken me completely by surprise. I have faced many challenges in my life, but nothing like this. I am honest, hardworking, who was raised in ideals and principals. I am putting all my faith in my attorney and the justice system to prove my innocence and save my reputation."
Gravitt said the organisation has a "zero tolerance policy".
"Whether it's something major or minor, it's all about keeping an equal and level playing field. Unfortunately, our title holder sought an unfair competitive advantage, and that's just not acceptable in our system."
"She made a poor life choice."
