The 26-year-old US Army officer was crowned Miss USA on Sunday night represented a positive change in the international pageant ranks - the top five were based on their political and economic beliefs.
Barber, from Washington DC, campaigned on gender equality and veterans issues and will now go on to compete at the Miss Universe pageant.
