Now that she's not representing the US on the world stage, Michelle Obama is free to dress for herself.

And she's swapped first lady chic for, well, Michelle Obama chic as she and Barack holidayed in the Tuscan town of Montalcino.

She doesn't need to worry about sartorial political-correctness anymore and with her Italian holiday style, Michelle is sending a message that she's feeling relaxed and confident about her new post-FLOTUS life.

Pictured over the weekend wearing a pink one-shoulder top and frayed white jeans, accessorised with hoop earrings, oversize sunglasses, white slides and a white cross-body purse, Michelle could have been just a regular, but incredibly stylish, holidaymaker enjoying the Tuscan sun... if it wasn't for the team of bodyguards surrounding her.

On Monday, she was photographed with Barack as the couple toured nearby Siena, wearing another top that showed off her shoulders.

She paired the billowy, white top with wide-leg olive green trousers and another pair of slides - perfect for taking on the cobbled, medieval streets of the Italian town.

Although she never let the White House cramp her style, she did adhere to the all-American stylistic standard for her husband's term in office.

But she never gave in completelyy and allowed aspects of her personality and own brand of modernity to shine through her fashion choices with her trademark sleeveless dresses, floral prints and creative clashes of colour (remember the lava lamp style Narciso Rodriguez dress from the 2008 inauguration?)

Summer has only started and we can't wait to see what else Michelle brings to her holiday fashion playbook.
