Because we've all been stranded in the middle of a muddy field without the essentials - here's what to pack to cover all angles (and make you the most popular person on site.)

Sleep

When hot footing it to a festival, sleep is the last thing on your mind. Fast forward to 7am and you'll be longing for anything to lay your exhausted head on. If you haven't already got your tent and camping equipment, try Argos, Halfords, Littlewoods or Sports Direct for last minute deals.

Tip: Bring a yoga mat to lay under your sleeping bag to avoid having your sleep interrupted by a rocky ground. Also, we've done our research, and a fleece onesie seems to guarantee the snuggest nights' slumber.

Practical

If you're an incessant social media updater, your phone is going to run out of juice. Avoid the queues at the recharging stations by packing a mobile charger (available from most phone shops). Things like portable speakers can also help to get the party going.

Hygiene

No-one wants to be "that girl" who was weighed down on the walk from car park to camp site with an arsenal of toiletries and cosmetics. You're only gone for three days. Face wipes, dry shampoo, moisturiser with spf, deodorant, toothpaste and a pocket hand sanitiser should suffice to keep you at least appearing fresh for the weekend. On second thoughts, maybe pack a fragrance or body spray to keep everyone happy.

Insider tip: If you really find yourself in a pickle, Surf are hosting a pop-up laundrette at the Picnic this year. While your clothes are washed and dried, you can chill out and listen to the Surf DJs with a complimentary onesie.

Beauty

As mentioned above, minimal makeup is the aim of the game. An illuminating primer or liquid bronzer will help hide evidence that you were at the forest rave all night, while a heavy duty concealer will make you look bright eyed and bushy tailed. Save space by packing products that offer multiple benefits, such as a lip and cheek stain or NYX's cult Wonder Pencil which has a myriad of uses.

Fashion

The great thing about a festival is you can put together the most random of outfits, and it will probably still look effortless and stylish. The same can't be said for most other situations, so take advantage! Our hit list usually includes gilets, oversized denim or camo jackets, funky leggings, cute playsuits and lots of jewellery for layering. In terms of handbags, anything hands-free, such as a bumbag, rucksack or satchel, is key.

Tip: Do you have old shorts, cotton dresses or parka jackets lying around? Take them to the Zip Yard on South Anne Street who are more than willing to help give old garments a new lease of life for festival season. Their creativity knows no ends, leaving you with a 100% original and unique look for the festival.

Weather

Think it through - is your outfit straight out of a Coachella-inspired Pinterest board? Then the chances are it is not weather-proof. A sturdy rain jacket and wellies are advisable, as are opaque tights to keep your pins under wraps if the heavens decide to open.

That being said, don't forget your shades - at least they'll disguise the all nighter!
