And they're off! All the weird and wonderful style at Aintree Races
It's that time of year again.
All the fashionable fillies have descended on Aintree Racecourse today for the opening day of the races at Liverpool, which means we will be treated with a plethora of weird and wonderful fashion over the next three days.
Last year, organisers attempted to enforce a "style code" for guests to adhere to, in an attempt to make it more "aspirational". While Royal Ascot and Cheltenham have a strictly enforced dress code, this year there's no rules to follow in Liverpool.
A statement issued by the Jockey Club, which owns the racecourse, said there is no recommended fashion guide.
"Smart is preferable and is often adopted'.
"Aintree is a spectacle of colour throughout the year, with many using their trip to the racecourse as an opportunity to showcase their favourite raceday outfits..
Hats are optional too, but are frequently worn. Sports clothes and fancy dress are not permitted for The Randox Health Grand National Festival."
