Wardrobe emergency? Stylist Darren Kennedy is here to solve your problems in fabulous fashion.
"I'm just wondering where to find a nice black pair of biker-type boots, which seem to be really on-trend this year; either ankle or calf length, please." Sara, Co Louth
This year's biker boots are chunkier, grittier and more aggressive than ever, with metal hardware, studding, spikes and thick soles.
This take-no-prisoner style of boot is the perfect spring wardrobe updater, and a good, solid basic is the low-heeled 'Sadie' by Carvela (€225, Brown Thomas), while the 'Admiral', with studded panel design, will appeal to lovers of metallic detailing (€71.42, Asos).
Over at Office, you'll find the 'Domino', a lace-up boot with double buckle and studded toe (€125). New Look's mid-height boot is a reasonably priced take on the trend ( €44.99).
For a high-octane fashion fix, Alexander Wang's black leather boots with cut-out heel are a feisty addition to any fashionista's wardrobe (€760, Brown Thomas). The 'Vex' leather heeled boot has similar cut-out detail, with the addition of a triple-buckle ankle strap and spike-embellished toe cap (€210, Kurt Geiger).
Needless to say, both River Island and Topshop are all over this trend. My favourite at River Island is a pair of black lace-up shoe boots (€125), while the 'Paige' cowboy-style boot with woven detail caught my eye at Topshop (€229).
Wear any of these boots in the same way you'd style your old biker boots – with skinny jeans and a tee, a pretty day dress, or rock them with a pair of cut-off denim shorts.
