Style Dilemma: What to wear with a red lace dress to a wedding

I have bought a knee-length red lace dress (by Frank Lyman) for my brother's wedding in early October. What should I wear over it, and do you have any idea on shoes? I am 49, 5ft 7in and a size 14. Catherine, Co Cork
Delicately textured, sophisticated and uber-feminine, a red lace dress requires minimum styling. Over-doing it with accessories or too much contrasting colour will spoil the effect, so I'd advise you to keep everything else pared back.
A taupe or camel-coloured coat, such as the boucle coat at Penneys ( €40) or the Crombie style at M&S Collection (€109), will work a treat without overwhelming the dress.
Similarly the luxe angora-wool cocoon coat with funnel neck by Jaeger (€450) is a stunning piece that will carry you through the cooler months.
Trench coats are a perennial classic and Karen Millen's satin fabric mix trench (€299) is an elegant cover-all with a luxe feel or, for a more traditional wedding look, Dunnes Stores's white formal coat with notch-neck detailing ( €50) is another option.
Personally, I'd prefer a darker shade such as Hobbs's grey 'Arna' coat ( €420).
For footwear, opt for a playful metallic such as the 'Santa Monica' pointed-toe slingbacks at Asos (€33.14) or the leather 'Dochka' peep-toe platform heels at Dune (€112.67).
