Style Dilemma: What should I wear to a black tie wedding?

I've got a black tie wedding in August and am looking for something really special but sexy too. I usually associate black tie with winter wedding so I’m at a loss as to what to choose. Also, should I have to go full-length or is cocktail length appropriate?
Personally I think there are so few occasions that demand black tie these days that it’s a shame not to indulge and wear a floor-length dress. Since it’s in August you can wear any colour you like and there are tonnes of maxi dresses around that will fit the bill.
Monsoon are fantastic for this type of occasion and always have bright colours that are perfect for a summer wedding. They have a huge range of full-length dresses to choose from in a selection of fabrics. While they generally come in around the €200 mark there is a real attention to detail and commitment to using luxurious fabrics so you get value for what you pay.
I adore this cobalt blue dress! The deep V, the romantic frill sleeve, the shoulder ties, the nipped in waist and the ace colour. Like I said, you get what you pay for. At €185 this is the kind of dress that would work with gold accessories for your August wedding but would also be perfect teamed with black in Winter or jewelled flats on holiday.
If you’re looking for something completely unique you might want to take a trip to Covet in Powerscourt Townhouse where they rent one-of-a-kind dresses. This amazing store has a huge selection of designer pieces and vintage collectables from labels including Chanel, Valentino, Ungaro, Galliano, Marni and more.
They only stock one of each piece so you will never run the risk of bumping into someone with the same gear. Prices vary depending on the piece but start at around €120.
