Style Dilemma: What should a mature student wear for graduation?
I'm looking for advice on what to wear for my graduation. Although I am a mature student, I'm one of the youngest in my graduating class, having completed a business Master's.
I have red hair, and I'm trying to find something that will look sophisticated. The graduation is this month. Jane (31), Dublin
The key here is to think dressed up but not over the top. Whatever you choose needs to be something that will take you from the ceremony to lunch and potentially a night out.
The 'Bordeaux Chelsea' dress at Hobbs London (€230), with three-quarter-length sleeves, and a high rounded neckline with cutwork detailing, is a demure day-to-night number that will really set off your red hair.
Pair with black heels for a classic look or with nude heels and a cobalt-blue clutch for a pop of fun colour. Ted Baker's 'Olosa' ponyskin bag is simply delicious (€182.08, Asos).
Warehouse's short-sleeved, pleated midi-dress in pale pink is elegant, with a distinct retro appeal (€90). If you wish, offset some of the girliness with layers of chunky jewellery and an oversized tote, such as the 'Camilla' faux-fur studded bag at Boohoo.com (€45).
For a more ladylike outfit, channel your inner Christina Hendricks at Fran & Jane, which has a stylish selection of form-flattering dresses, including the 'Elle' houndstooth ruched dress (€229) and a fitted purple frock with half-sleeves (€249).
