Style Dilemma: What can I wear to my civil ceremony wedding?
Published 11/05/2013 | 04:00
I am 37 years old, 5ft 3in and a size 12, with brown hair. I am having a civil wedding in a Dublin hotel in August. Do you have any suggestions on the type of dress I might wear, either long or knee length? Many thanks, Angela
It's your big day, so you can wear whatever brings a smile to your face. Working on the assumption that you don't want to wear a typical wedding gown, you could opt for a cocktail-style dress. If you want to give a nod to the traditional, white, off-white or ivory would be your colour of choice.
The 'Sonia' at Hobbs (1 €225) is a stunningly elegant and graceful A-line dress in ivory. This sleeveless dress is constructed from delicate stitched ribbon lacing and comes to just above the knee.
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a boho bride, then the 'Evie' by NW3 (2 €230) is for you. The combination of white broderie anglaise and the relaxed trapeze shape gives it plenty of charm.
I would be inclined to avoid anything too fussy in terms of shape or print.
If you prefer vibrant colour, the Stills Atelier spring/summer 2013 collection at the Kilkenny shop blends iconic silhouettes with modern sophistication, and features a gorgeous, structured, pink sleeveless number with pleat skirt (3 €289.95).
Over at Harvey Nichols, the 'Richmond' dress by Goat (4 €495) is a fitted, lightweight, wool crepe dress that perfectly blends past and present. With distinctive detailing, including revere collar and cuffs, fitted sleeves and concealed zips, it's simple, feminine and flattering.
Whatever style you choose, I wish you a fantastic day.
