Style Dilemma: Pocket friendly shopping for trends

Darren, I've never been one for the nautical trend but I'm drawn to the multi-coloured stripes I keep seeing in magazines. Everything I've seen is so expensive, though. This is my first foray into wearing any stripes so I don't want to spend a lot, just in case. Where would I find pocket-friendly ones that look the part? Susan (41), Cork
Stripes were championed by many designers for spring/summer 2011. What was presented was far more than your average Breton stripe. Everything from skinny to broad to graduated stripes were sent down the runway.
As far as I'm concerned, Prada were the ones who really nailed it with their strong geometric stripes in bold colours. Luckily for the rest of us, this trend has trickled down to the high street.
Penneys' colour-block maxi dress (€17), in a combination of blue, yellow and orange block stripes, is the perfect summer number. If you're not quite ready to wear this trend full on, the store also has a selection of striped separates landing in store later this month from €13.
