Style dilemma: Look smart and avoid the freeze
QI'm looking for a seasonal alternative to a summer dress that will look smart and spring-like but which I won't freeze in.
I'm sick of jeans and I want an outfit which is fashionable and lighter looking while still being weather appropriate.
Trousers are having a fashion moment and a statement pair are a fantastic alternative to jeans and an elegant and warmer option than summer dresses.
Choose from luxurious silk harem pants, utilitarian cargo pants, exotic travel trousers in colourful prints or a dapper pair of 7/8-length trousers.
Statement trousers have the same wow factor as any dress when styled correctly. Try teaming a pair of harem pants with sky-scraper high-heels. The utility trend is huge so add a touch of luxe lounging to your trousers with a slouchy cropped jersey jumper. The thought of flashing your midriff at this time of year is enough to reduce any woman to a fit of shivers so get the look without the freeze by layering a bodysuit under your top. Warehouse do good Lycra versions. For a really fashion-forward look try a lace bodysuit. American Apparel, www.yogoego.com and Topshop all have good styles in either nude or black.
If you choose printed travel pants balance out the extreme print with a neutral palette on top. Try city-slick pieces such as a leather or cotton biker-style jacket and soft knit tops.
Brogues look great with 7/8 trousers or cargo pants rolled up at the ankles. For the vertically challenged, stick to dark, full-length harem pants with dark shoe boots to elongate your pins. Whichever style, show em' who's wearing the trousers this Spring!
