Style Dilemma

CLASSY BLACK DRESS NUMBER IS ON MY LIST FOR CHRISTMAS

I am 35 and looking to invest in a good black dress number for Christmas. I want to buy one in time this year. I am size 12 and 5ft 8in. I don't like strapless or anything too short. I am looking for something classy, just above the knee. I would appreciate your advice on what my best options might be.

Marie, GalwayEvery woman should own at least one good quality LBD. It's an essential, timeless piece for any wardrobe and chosen wisely, it's a garment you'll be able to rely on for several seasons.

Marks & Spencer's black snakeskin jacquard shift by Per Una Speziale (1 €120) has super-flattering panel detailing and features an elegant slash neck and full length sleeve.

For a night out, keep the styling pared back by teaming with vertiginous heels, some statement earrings and an eye- catching bag.

Zara's loose-fit black dress (2 €79.95) with knot detailing at the bust and floaty skirt is party ready. Pied a Terre's embellished high neck dress is demure yet figure hugging. The decorative detail runs from the neck through to the sleeves giving the classic LBD a playful, modern twist for party season (3 €129, House of Fraser).

Tap into this season's texture trend with the black embroidered knee length dress with feather trim hem by Savida (4 €120, Dunnes Stores). Whatever style you choose, there are so many ways you can accessorise your LBD. It truly is the ultimate piece in sartorial versatility.
