Student Tara's a shoe-in for top enterprise award
A Co Kildare teenager who has put snazzy designer lookalike red-soled shoes within everyone's budget has walked away with this year's Student Enterprise Award.
Tara Haughton (16), a pupil of Cross and Passion College, Kilcullen, got the idea for her Rosso Solini business when confetti got stuck to her shoe at a wedding.
Although still at school, Tara's Rosso Solini (Italian for red soles), is flourishing and employing two staff. Her three-pair packs of stick-on soles sell for €15 online and in some retail outlets.
Yesterday, Tara won the senior category at the County and City Enterprise Board's student enterprise programme.
More than 240 teenage entrepreneurs took part in the national final of the competition, and the programme encouraged 15,000 students from 400 second-level schools to research, set up and manage their own real-life student business.
