Springtime at Oasis but it's winter for the rest of us

IT was truly a day for the big winter coat and thermal undies.
But the high street fashion brand Oasis yesterday performed some springtime travel and literally catapulted us into mid-spring where the desire to wear colour transcends all other wardrobe considerations.
With egg yoke yellows, soothing corals, sugar-rush pastels, crisp whites and a wall of fabulous blues, the temptation to dress for the sunshine was overwhelming.
Even the prints screamed high summer, from the parrots, palm trees and posies of flowers to the strong Mediterranean hues, tribal motifs and pretty oriental prints that travel across the body.
The flat florals were cool and the 'Rachel' dress in blue (€76) showcases an oriental print with lavish cherry blossoms and parrots.
Strike a holiday pose early by salting away some very flattering, high-waisted tailored shorts such as the palm beach shorts (€40) in chrome yellow worn by model Thalia with a matching top in pink (€40).
Oasis are strong on shorts suits combinations this year, mixing up the density of print between jacket and V-neck top and completing the look with shorts in a solid block colour. China blue is huge and textures are as varied as possible holiday destinations, from cute tops coming in inky blue, cutwork lace and powder blue leather to silky-finish floral shorts.
However, for me, the real winners in this SS14 Oasis collection were the spring coats. After escaping from the gusting rain, it was hard not to be smitten by the blue marblised jacquard fabric cut into a three-quarter length coat (€106), seen here worn over a cropped top (€56) and a longer line pencil skirt (€62). Hemlines are certainly getting longer, I suspect, because petite Victoria Beckham is leading the brigade.
A jacquard of peach daisy heads with tiny yellow centre has been crafted into a super smart, round shouldered, duster-style, buttonless coat (€106). It goes straight to the top of my list for the racing season and the design team wisely used the fabric for a lovely, slim skirt (€60) which sits on the knee.
Accessories are strong with lots of shell necklaces, colour clutches and a very cute silver flat sandal with a cream patent strap. Very St Tropez.
