Spring in its step BT2 reveals new collection

Kathleen O'Callaghan

THESE are clearly clothes for after the floods and the big freeze.

Despite the sludge, BT2 boldly launched its new spring collection yesterday.

Rolled-up micro shorts, and Lady Gaga hot pants and miniskirts, shake a leg along with flirty frocks and surfer girl T-shirts.

Beach-boys can choose T-shirts by Two Angle with pouting girls emblazoned on the front.

Model Jude wore smart black shorts by Sonia Rykiel and a cool cardie and top.

Prom princess dresses twirled by along with thigh-scraping baby doll skirts and romper suits from Juicy Couture.

Victoria Beckham's label is in demand, despite the critics lamenting her gaunt appearance on 'American Idol' with Simon Cowell.

Her skinny jeans, toothpick-thin legs and teetering heels are a hit with Naomi Campbell and Eva Longoria.

But mere mortals may find it hard to manoeuvre more than a big toe -- or a bunion -- into some styles and can opt for Hilfiger or Pepe instead.

Those with flamingo legs can team the jeans with 60s feathered boleros or Michael Jackson-style military jackets. Looser clothing comes in harem pants with distinctive draped nappy silhouette.

Printed cotton pants are worn with sheer blouson shirts by the Parisien brand Hotel Particulier. The collections are colourful and full of elements combined with a haphazard charm, as stripes and zigzags combine with jungle prints and stripes from labels like Numph and Gestuz.

The chic shopper will snap up the divine white dress from the Tony Cohen 2Love label.

Military takes the opposite approach. Utility jackets with sergeant stripes, brass buttoned uniforms and cotton roll-up shorts goosestep into the fashion front line.

Those heading on safari can get into the jungle scenery with exotic toucan bright patterns, fake cheetah prints and leggings in zigzag styles from Daddy Long Legs. Flash a goosebumped leg in hot pants or cover up with footless tights.

The girly-girls can kick up their heels in pastelised prom dresses that are tiered and frilly. Last year's utlra-high shoe-boots that left many with their legs buckled under them are OUT.

Coco Chanel's Breton jersey top with tilted beret is de rigeur as this season is tinged with nautical inspiration.
