Model Amber Le Bon is the poster-girl for sensible winter wear.

I've got a cold and looking at people in skimpy outfits is making me shiver, so thank god someone was dressed sensibly last night.

At the launch of her mother Yasmin's dog accessories collection (I know, and I entirely agree) the model Amber Le Bon was wearing an ensemble that would have seen me right through this miserable week when all I've wanted to be in is flannel pyjamas and knitted socks.

But when one has to leave the bedroom - and sadly being a thoroughly modern woman I have had to - jeans, a jumper and a coat will do.

What you want, ideally, as Miss Le Bon has cottoned onto, is a coat that you can slip a big chunky jumper underneath.

I've been lurching from train to office in my new Margaret Howell mac-cum-parka so roomy that yesterday I wore it over a vest, a sweatshirt and a long cardigan.

I can't say I looked hot but at least I was warm.

Pulling it off with far more sex appeal, Le Bon has opted for a huge dark red knit (I like to think it's Daddy Le Bon's) which is a bit festive, a bit The Killing and altogether very 2011.
